We have a look at the first two official production photos of Johnny Depp in The Rum Diary. In the film, Depp plays a doppelganger for the late Hunter S. Thompson for the second time (Terry Gilliam’s classic Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas being the first).
In Bruce Robinson’s new film, Depp plays Paul Kemp, “a freelance journalist who finds himself at a critical turning point in his life while writing for a run-down newspaper in the Caribbean. Paul is challenged on many levels as he tries to carve out a more secure niche for himself amidst a group of lost souls all bent on self-destruction.” The film co-stars Aaron Eckhart, Richard Jenkins, Amber Heard, and Giovanni Ribisi. Check out the first two production photos after the jump.
Finally. I had pretty much written off the possibility of this film actually ever becoming a reality. Truly one of my favorite books ever written by Doc HST, and I can’t wait to watch Depp take on the role of playing a much younger Hunter.
